RSLWA’s 101st Annual State Conference has concluded for 2017.
Held in the Government House Ballroom more than 300 RSLWA Members were in attendance.
Our Patron, Her Excellency, the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC, the Governor of Western Australia, officially opened Congress.
Many VIP’s attended and delivered speeches to the audience including, the Honourable Peter Tinley AM MLA, the Minister for Housing; Veterans’ Issues and Youth and the Honourable Tjorn Sibma MLC, Shadow Minister for Government Accountability; Community Services; Youth; Seniors & Ageing; Volunteers; and Veterans Issues.
At Federal level the Honourable Dan Tehan MP, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs; Defence Personnel; the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Cyber Security and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of ANZAC delivered a speech which was followed by Amanda Rishworth MP, Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs; Shadow Minister for Defence Personnel.
Mr Robert Dick, National President of The Returned & Services League was present and addressed the audience.
On the awards front, the President of the Serpentine-Jarrahdale Sub-Branch, Mr Ric Giblett OAM JP received the ANZAC of the Year award.
Meritorious awards were presented to Jack Bavich (City of Cockburn Sub-Branch) and Roy Mouritzen (South Perth Sub-Branch).
Life Membership awards were presented to James Clarke (Jurien Bay Sub-Branch); former RSLWA State President Graham Edwards (North Beach Sub-Branch); Brian Lennon (Canning Districts Sub-Branch); Michael O’Donnell (Pinjarra Sub-Branch); Kevin O’Dwyer (Esperance Sub-Branch); Grahame Old (Collie-Cardiff Sub-Branch); Derek Pickering (City of Mandurah Sub-Branch); and Charles Schofield (Mt Hawthorn Sub-Branch).
A 50 Year Certificate was presented to Bruce Williams (Quairading Sub-Branch).
In his address, Martin Holzberger AM CSC, Operations Manager for RSLWA, delivered a live presentation of the newly launched RSLWA website. The audience delighted in reaching for their mobile phones to see the new features of the site including, a secure Membership payment system and better viewing compatibility on tablets and mobile devices.
RSLWA State President Peter Aspinall retains his position after being elected unopposed.
