Mr Tim Curtis


Tim is a risk and crisis management consultant with more than twenty years of management experience as a strategic planner, change manager and organization all leader, with a pedigree from the Australian Special Operations Forces. His military experience saw Tim serve for 16years in the Australian Defence Force with nearly a decade of this time as an officer in the Australian Special Air Service(SAS) Regiment. He designed and implemented the Australian counter terrorist response arrangements for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. In 2001, Tim was a principal adviser to the Government of Sierra Leone, during the period of civil war. Following this, he was selected to raise a sensitive and time-critical Australian national counter terrorist capability (2002).

In 2004-5, Tim consulted to major resource and services companies on crisis and risk management with Truscott Crisis Leaders before holding the appointment of the Director of the Joint Electoral Operations Centre in 2005 within the United Nations for the Afghanistan Parliamentary Elections.  Tim’s primary responsibility was planning for,and managing the prevailing risk, to ensure a safe electoral process involving more than 1million electoral staff and 14 million voters.

For the next 9 years(2006-14),Tim was the Managing Director of a group of 42 companies based from Dubai providing medical, security, logistics, aviation and consulting services with an annual turn over of AUD 100m. In conjunction with an insurance partner, his risk and crisis management client list included 20% of Fortune 500 Companies. His crisis response team had experience in the management and resolution of over 1300cases.

Tim is a highly-regarded thought leader on the reduction of operational risk and the management of critical incidents. His international clients continue to include manufacturing companies, health and insurance organizations, gaming and entertainment companies, mining,oil and gas companies, engineering services, high net worth individuals and both government and non-government organisations. In 2018-19, Tim personally consulted to clients across 21 countries worldwide. Tim continues to advise clients through some of the highest profile corporate crises globally.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts (History/ Politics) and a Masters of Business Administration. He is also Adjunct faculty for the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) @UNSW Business School and delivers leadership and other executive education programs on behalf of the AGSM.  Tim is the independent Risk Advisor to a USD100m multi-donor peace fund in Myanmar. He is an Advisory Board Member for the Starlight Children’s Foundation in Australia and a Board Member of the charity Soldier & Sirens. He is also a Company Director of four private companies.
