Battle of Beersheba

RSLWA State Branch will be holding a wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Beersheba at the Flame of Remembrance.

Beersheba, a heavily fortified town 43kms from the Turkish bastion of Gaza, was the scene of an historic charge by the 4th Light Horse Brigade on 31 October 1917.

The charge at Beersheba personified the courage and skill of Australian horsemen in WWI and enabled the fall of Beersheba and subsequent withdrawal of Turkish troops from the Gaza-Beersheba line.
