There is currently a six month delay in the processing of applications for medal assessment. The Department of Defence understands that these delays can be frustrating, and urge people to visit the website where the current processing delay will be documented.

Replica Medals

Replica medals are available from medal dealers or commercial military memorabilia outlets. Many of these replicas are high quality and can be difficult to distinguish from the originals.

Republic of Korea War Service Medal

The Republic of Korea War Service Medal was introduced by South Korea in 1951 to recognise the assistance provided by members of the United Nations forces in combatting communist aggressions in Korea. 

Veterans who have been awarded with the Australian Active Service Medal 1945-75 with Clasp KOREA are also eligible for the Republic of Korea War Service medal.

Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation

Australian Defence Force members who served during the Vietnam War have been recognised with the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation (the Citation).

Individuals who believe they could be eligible can submit and application here.

National Archives of Australia

Following the death of the last World War I veteran in 2005, the entitlement to the replacement of World War I medals ended. If World War I medals have been lost, you can purchase these from a reputable medals dealer.

To check what medals a Veteran was issued, you can access their service record, which are held at the National Archives of Australia, through the Discovering ANZAC's portal. Click here.

Service Medal Donations

RSLWA, as a general rule, does not accept service medals. You may like to speak to the Army Museum of Western Australia (Fremantle) on (08) 9430 2535 about a possible donation.
