Tasmania and the Centenary of Armistice

| By Brian Watson - RSL Tasmania

Tasmania is the smallest state in Australia with a population of around 500,000.

Not many people are aware of the rich military history about Tasmania and to honour this rich military history RSL Tasmania is extremely proud to announce a very special concert to commemorate the Centenary of Armistice.

The concert commemorates all those who served this great nation.

The question that the writer has been asked on a number of occasions 'Why Tasmania'?

Well for a start Tasmanian born servicemen hold the first and 100th Victoria Cross awards. 14 Victoria Crosses have been awarded to Tasmanians, the highest per capita of all Australian states and territories.

Tasmania is also home to arguably the most highly decorated Commonwealth soldier of the First World War Lt Colonel Harry Murray.

Tasmania is also home to some of the oldest RSL Sub-Branches and is the home state to the founder of Legacy.

If this doesn't convince you then what about the fact Tasmania still has the highest enlistment rate per capita of any state into the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The Centenary of Armistice Concert that will take place at the world famous Albert Hall in Launceston which has the last water powered organ in the world that is still operational will run for three hours with a 20-minute interval will be an event not to be missed.

The organisers will present a matinee and an evening performance.

Tickets will go on sale as of 10 of January 2018.

Visitors coming to the state will be also able to attend the very famous Deloraine Craft fair that runs at the same time and also be able to attend many of our other tourist attractions such as the Penny Royal Gunpowder Mills the Boags Brewery tour and take a cruise on our Tamar river to see the sea eagles. We are expecting a number of American ex-servicemen and we have arranged special bus tours that can be accessed as well.
