Battle of the Atlantic

DVA would like to invite the nomination of Australian veterans who served in the Battle of the Atlantic between September 1939 and May 1945 to attend a national commemorative service marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic in Canberra on 1 May 2018.

The Battle of Atlantic was fought over thousands of miles by submarines, ships and aircraft, by code-breakers, intelligence operatives and by thousands of civilian seamen and merchant mariners whose calling took them into the Second World War’s most dangerous shipping lanes and cost many thousands of them their lives.

Winston Churchill considered the Battle of Atlantic ‘the dominating factor all through the war …. [everything] depended ultimately on its outcome’.

Nominations are now open and close on Friday 23 February 2018.
