The award was presented on Australia Day 2018.
The South Perth RSL Sub-Branch has received the Active Citizenship Award highlighting the extensive work done by them in the local community.
The award was presented at South Perth’s annual Morning Ceremony on Australia Day.
In addition to its ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day Services, the Sub-Branch looks after the welfare of sick or injured Members by visiting them in hospital or at home.
Sub-Branch Members also support local schools’ with their ANZAC Day Ceremonies by setting up memorials and by donating books to awards nights.
Secretary Bonnie Atkinson says they are delighted with the award.
“We cover a large area including South Perth, Como, Kensington, Manning, Salter Point and Waterford,” she said.
“We have a few members living at Gracewood Nursing Home in Salter Point, so we conduct our March meeting there so those Members can attend.”
These supportive attributes of the Sub-Branch is probably what caught the eyes of the judges.
The award was presented in the presence of RSLWA’s Patron, Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC, Governor of Western Australia, along with community members who attended the morning’s events and Citizenship Ceremony.
