The decision to approve funding was made unanimously.
Continuing to recognise the importance of ANZAC Day to the wider community, City of Perth Council has approved a donation of more than $82,000 to The Returned & Services League of Australia WA Branch (RSLWA) to assist with the costs of commemorations.
Deputy Lord Mayor Jemma Green said the donation is important in continuing the strong relationship between the City and RSLWA.
“ANZAC day is a hugely significant day for Australia, and we are proud to continue the support of these events for the community,” Dr Green said.
“The freedom and prosperity we take for granted in 2017 is the life work of our soldiers past and present, and it’s important we maintain our tradition of commemoration.”
Voting unanimously on the decision, Council has agreed to a $65,806 cash donation towards commemoration activities and a further $16,860 cash donation towards promotional support.
ANZAC Day events in 2018 will include the Dawn Service in Kings Park, the ANZAC Day March and Commemoration Service at Perth Concert Hall, and the Gunfire Breakfast at Government House.
