The Returned & Services League of Australia WA Branch Incorporated (RSLWA) has thrown its full support behind Australia’s most decorated soldier, Ben Roberts-Smith, whose reputation is being tarnished without a shred of evidence.
RSLWA Chief Executive Officer, John McCourt, said the way Mr Roberts-Smith has been treated was unacceptable and the RSLWA has backed his call for the Australian Federal Police for criminal investigation into possible breaches of Commonwealth Law.
“We are gobsmacked at how poorly Ben has been treated,” Mr McCourt said. “As he has said, he has done nothing wrong and wants a fair go. We believe him and we support him.”
Mr McCourt said it was vital that good people of the Australian Defence Force who have served their country with courage and pride are supported when unable to protect themselves because of innuendo and alleged “false” accusations.
“We are proud of Ben as a West Australian, a great solider and a quality person.
RSLWA, as the pre-eminent Ex-Service Organisation in Western Australia, has a responsibility to back Ben and other fine and courageous members of the Australian Defence Force, who find themselves in such a position through absolutely no fault of their own.”
