Stuart joined the Royal Australian Engineers in 1995 and has since served over 20 years with the ADF.
He has served with the Joint Incident Response Unit (JIRU) for the 2000 Olympic Games, as a High Risk Search commander, deployed to Iraq with the British, Royal Engineers in early 2003, and worked with 3 CER as a High Risk Search Advisor for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
In 2007, following a severe hand injury, he relocated his family to Broome in the states North West where he transferred to the reserve unit Norforce.
Operating as a Patrol commander he has deployed on many operational border patrols across the entire north of Australia. His current role with Norforce is as a Patrol Master and Squadron Sergeant Major or SSM for Kimberley Squadron based in Broome.
Stuart was elected as Vice President of Broome RSL in 2014 and in 2015 was elected as president, a position he is currently maintaining.
