RSL WA is saddened to announce the passing of Dilwyn “Digger” Cleak OAM, a remarkable advocate for veterans and the ex-service community.
Digger joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1961, serving for 20 years, including aboard HMAS Hobart during a deployment to South Vietnam in 1968. He subsequently received a Commendation for Distinguished Service in the 1998 End of War Honours List.
His journey with RSL WA began in 1986 at the Gosnells RSL Sub-Branch, before becoming President of the Albany Sub-Branch and later transforming the City of Cockburn Sub-Branch into one of WA’s largest.
His dedication saw him organise countless ceremonial events, including the ANZAC Youth Parade, and support schools, aged care facilities, and local communities.
He received the Centenary Medal for services to veterans in 2001 and the Medal of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List in 2003. He was granted Life Membership of the League in 2009.
Digger leaves a legacy of service, leadership, and mateship.
A celebration of his life will be held on 31 January 2026, 2–5 pm at City of Cockburn RSL Sub-Branch. All are welcome.
