The senseless terror act at Bondi Beach yesterday is deeply distressing to all Australians.
The following statement can be attributed to Stephen Barton, RSL WA CEO:
“The flags at Anzac House are at half-mast. We ask that they are at half-mast at all Sub-Branches.
I direct all RSL WA members to the National President’s statement on the Bondi Beach terrorist attacks.
This year we commemorated the 80th anniversary to end the Second World War. Australians fought and died to defeat a regime so monstrous that it industrialised the slaughter of Jewish men, women and children in an unparalleled act of evil. And yet, it has come to pass that on an Australian beach, people – among them a survivor of the Holocaust and a ten-year-old child – were murdered because they were Jews.
It is scarcely possible to capture the shame and anger that this has occurred in our country. As the National President said, this is not the Australia our veterans fought and died for.
RSL WA shares its profound grief with the Jewish community. We offer them our unwavering solidarity.”
We recognise that these events may cause distress, including within our veteran community. Crisis support is available through Open Arms – free, confidential, and available 24/7. Please call: 1800 011 046.
FLAGS AT HALF MAST PROTOCOL
At the request of the Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, flags across Australia are to be flown at half-mast today, Monday 15 December 2025, to honour the victims of the Bondi Beach tragedy.
RSL WA calls on all Sub-Branches across the state, where possible, to participate in this mark of respect.
Protocol:
- The Australian National Flag should be flown at half-mast from all buildings and establishments occupied by Australian Government departments and affiliated agencies. Other organisations are welcome to participate.
- When flying the Australian National Flag with other flags, all flags in the set should be flown at half-mast.
- If a set includes flags of other nations, seek permission from diplomatic representatives before lowering their flag.
An acceptable half-mast position is when the top of the flag is one-third down from the top of the flagpole.
