80th Anniversary of Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day
Join us at this special commemorative event at the State War Memorial at Kings Park & Botanic Garden on Friday the 18thof August from 10:30 am – 11:15 am.
Victory in the Pacific (VP) Day marks the end of the Second World War for Australia with Japan’s acceptance of an unconditional surrender on the 14 August 1945. On VP Day, we commemorate the Australian service in the Second World War and honour our last living veterans that served throughout this conflict.
For Australia, it’s a key date to remember the cost and our role in the Second World War with over 30,000 Australian servicemen being taken prisoner and 39,000 giving their lives to safeguard Australia against invasion.
